English Information
The VU-koor is the student choir of the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam. We mostly sing 20th-century works by composers like Britten, Pärt and Poulenc. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the fun of singing, and therefore we do not have auditions. Everyone is welcome!
One of the advantages of our choir is that you get to know people. We organize several activities during the year: every project we have a choir weekend somewhere outside of Amsterdam, and we sometimes go out together for dinner or a drink.
There are often international students in the choir. You don't have to speak Dutch to join us: our director can switch to English, though normally that isn't necessary (if you can count in Dutch, and you learn fast enough, you can understand the most important part of rehearsals). Our next concerts will be 30th May in the Dominicuskerk in Amsterdam and 7th June in the Moeder van de Verlosser-kerk in Haarlem. We will sing the Requiem by Duruflé and Poulenc's Stabat Mater.
In September 2009 we will start a new project: Brahms's Requiem. Check this website for updates about open rehearsals.
