Information about membership

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are on monday evenings from 19:30 to 21:45 at the NU-building at the Vrije Universiteit campus. The rehearsal season corresponds approximately with the academic schedule of the Vrije Universiteit, starting in september and ending in june. Members will be informed in advance about deviating rehearsal dates and/or locations. Halfway throughout the rehearsal we have a short break, and after the rehearsal members can join in and have a drink at Bar Boele.

Contribution

Members of the VU-choir pay an annual contribution. This year the contribution fee for a whole year (september – june) is as follows:

  • € 135,- for students from VU/UvA/HvA or other universities/colleges
  • € 270,- for everyone else

It is possible to appeal for an adjusted contribution fee in the case of staying abroad for study purposes. Other deviating contribution fees are granted only in consultation with the board. Cancellation of the membership must be done per email before the 1st of september.

Activities

In addition to rehearsals and concerts, the VU-choir organises other activities. For instance, about twice a year a choir weekend is organized. These weekends are held at a special location and feature intensive rehearsals during daytime and social activities in the evening, ranging from open stage to cocktail parties and playing board games. Throughout the year, the activity committee regularly organises fun get-togethers for the benefit of the group spirit. Examples of these are a visit to a karaoke bar, ice skating, a dinner party, lasergaming, cocktail parties and cultural activities such as visiting concerts. All in all, lots of fun!

Association

Since 2013 the VU-choir officially is an association. Therefore, the choir has a board and several committees to make sure that everything runs smoothly. This is done on a voluntary basis. As a member, you have the opportunity to join the choir board or one of its committees. Not only is this a much appreciated contribution to the choir, but it is also a lot of fun to do and a valuable experience.
